Unvented - Mains Pressure Cylinders

Unvented Hot Water Cylinders – High Pressure, Modern Performance

Unvented hot water cylinders are directly connected to your home's mains water supply, eliminating the need for a cold water tank in the loft. This delivers strong, consistent water pressure to all your taps, showers, and appliances—ideal for modern living.

Why Choose an Unvented Cylinder?

  • High Water Pressure – Mains-fed supply provides powerful, invigorating showers.

  • Balanced Flow – Enjoy equal pressure from both hot and cold taps.

  • Space-Saving Design – No need for a loft tank, perfect for homes with limited space.

  • Sealed System – Reduces risk of contamination and keeps water cleaner.

  • Flexible Heating Options – Compatible with boilers, solar panels, and immersion heaters.

Unvented cylinders are the go-to solution for homeowners who want strong water pressure, energy efficiency, and a sleek, space-saving system tailored to modern demands.

Vented - Gravity Fed Cylinders

Vented Hot Water Cylinders – A Tried and Trusted Choice

Vented hot water cylinders, often called gravity-fed systems, use a cold water storage tank—usually located in the loft—to supply water to the cylinder below. The system relies on gravity to deliver water to your taps, which means the higher the tank, the better the water pressure.

Why Choose a Vented Cylinder?

  • Cost-Effective Setup – Simple in design and affordable to install.

  • Low Maintenance – Fewer components mean fewer things to go wrong.

  • Great for Older Homes – Especially effective in properties already fitted with cold water tanks.

  • Reliable Water Supply – Offers consistent hot water, even during high demand.

  • Compatible with Immersion Heaters – Can be used with electric immersion for backup heating.

Vented cylinders are an excellent option for households looking for a budget-friendly, dependable hot water system—especially where mains pressure may be limited or inconsistent.

Frequently asked questions

How Does a Hot Water Cylinder Work?

A hot water cylinder is a storage tank that heats and holds hot water for use throughout your home—whether it’s for showers, baths, or washing up. The way the water is heated depends on the type of cylinder you have, such as vented, unvented, direct, or indirect.

Each system has its own benefits, and choosing the right one depends on your home’s layout and water usage.

How Do I Know If My Hot Water Cylinder Needs Replacing?

Like any household system, hot water cylinders can wear out over time. If your cylinder is around 10 years old or more, it may be time to have it assessed for efficiency and safety.

Common signs your cylinder may need replacing include:

  • No hot water at all

  • Visible leaks around the tank or pipes

  • Unusual noises such as banging, gurgling, or hissing

  • Inconsistent water temperature or pressure

If you’ve noticed any of these issues, it’s best to call a qualified professional to inspect the system and recommend the best course of action—whether that’s a repair or a full replacement.

Do you only cover North Devon?

Yes, we focus on North Devon and the surrounding areas, including Barnstable, Braunton, Bishop's Tawton, South Molton, and more.

Why Isn’t My Hot Water Cylinder Heating?

If your hot water cylinder isn’t heating water, the issue could be as simple as a tripped switch or incorrect thermostat settings.

Start by checking the power supply and thermostat. If everything seems in order but you still have no hot water, there could be a fault with the heating element, thermostat, or cylinder itself.

In this case, it’s best to call a qualified professional to diagnose and fix the issue safely.

Do you offer emergency replacements?

Yes! We can offer emergency tank replacements depending on your existing setup and requirements.

We moved to a property in Devon which needed an enormous amount of plumbing work. Jad upgraded our entire hot water system and heating system bringing them to full working order. This involved substantial work, in particular on an oil boiler, installing a new unvented hot water tank, and a pressurised cold water solution. During this project Jad also completed many associated tasks e.g. installing a self-levelling floor/ boarding out etc thereby providing an all encompassing service. Jad's work was of an exceptionally high standard. He was polite, professional, helpful, knowledgeable and gave great guidance throughout the process. We feel very lucky to have found Jad and highly recommend him.

Martin Peak - Brayford North Devon

Jad is absolutely amazing. He replaced our ageing boiler for a high efficiency Grant oil boiler and the entire central heating system and piping in our new (old) property near South Molton. He was very patient - issues kept appearing as he was progressing but he kept us informed about everything and gave us loads of advice too. The pipework he's done is immaculate and the heating and radiators are working perfectly. He also performed a water removal from our oil tank. We have some more bits that need doing and will certainly be relying on Jad for these as well as for the yearly servicing on the boiler. It's very rare to find an engineer who is as reliable, accurate and thorough as Jad. Thank you!!
